Hunting & Fishing Seasons on the Forgotten Coast

Franklin County and the surrounding Forgotten Coast offer exceptional year-round hunting and fishing opportunities.

Deer Season
Franklin County falls in Florida's Zone B. Archery season typically opens in mid-July; general gun season runs October through February. Check FWC for current zone dates.
Duck & Waterfowl Season
Apalachicola Bay and the coastal marshes are prime teal and duck habitat. Early teal season typically opens in September; the regular duck season runs late November through late January (North Zone). Federal duck stamp required.
Turkey Season
Spring gobbler season in the Apalachicola National Forest and surrounding areas. Florida's spring turkey season typically runs March through April. Check FWC for current bag limits and zone rules.
Flounder & Redfish
Redfish and flounder are available year-round in Apalachicola Bay and St. George Sound. Fall is prime for both species. Slot and bag limits apply — verify current rules at myfwc.com.
Offshore Fishing
Red snapper, grouper and amberjack are the primary offshore targets. Federal seasons for reef fish change annually — always confirm current season dates with NOAA Fisheries before heading out.
Hog Hunting
Feral hog hunting is available year-round on private lands and many public WMAs in Franklin County. No bag limit on private land; WMA rules vary. Check FWC for public land regulations.
